H1N1 Flu Preparedness

Vaccine Distribution

Vaccine distribution to county health departments is starting to arrive and in relatively small amounts due to supply.  The current county distribution plans follow the CDC recommended target groups and is attempting to meet the needs of the most vulnerable population initially.  To date vaccine is being distributed to "Care Givers" of ill persons such as Hospitals, and the highest risk individuals within the primary target group of pregnant women and pediatrics

A number of OB offices, pediatric offices, hospitals, family practice offices, and other health care providers have received small allotments of vaccine for staff and patients.  As vaccine shipments are received, an intense process of planning and logistics is being undertaken by the Health Department staff to distribute vaccine to these locations within 2-24 hrs of receipt.  To date this mission has been accomplished.

The Health Department needs your patience as we work through this endeavor to vaccinate the priority groups, and eventually the general public.

When available, clinic schedules will be posted on the webpage, on our hotline, and announced through all local media outlets at a later date.

JCHD H1N1 response goals are to:

  • Reduce transmission and illness severity, and
  • Provide information to help health care providers, public health officials, and the public address the challenges posed by this emergency.
  • Ensure that timely and accurate information are made readily available for those in the community.
How can you prevent the spread of Flu?
  • Cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing. (cough into shirt sleeve or tissue - not bare hand)
  • Stay at home when you are ill; and remain home 24hrs after fever free without the use of medicines.
  • Contact your primary care provider should symptoms worsen.
  • Wash your hands frequently and thoroughly.
