WIC Program (see below for contact information) (317) 736-6628 The (WIC) Women, Infants and Children's Program is a special supplemental food and nutrition program. Those eligible for WIC include:
WIC Services: Participants receive checks which can be redeemed for specified nutritional foods at approved grocery stores. These foods include: milk, cheese, juice, eggs, beans, peanut butter, and cereal. Tuna and carrots are added for an exclusively breastfeeding mom. Unless breastfeeding, infants receive formula, infant cereal at 4 months of age and infant juice at 9 months of age. Breastfeeding is encouraged at WIC and breast pumps are provided, if needed. A lactation consultant is also available for breastfeeding support. Participants also receive nutrition counseling, and nutrition education given by a Registered Dietitian or a Registered Nurse. We do physical assessments which include, height/weight measurements and anemia screening. Referrals to other health and social services are also provided.
Income Eligibility; All eligible people who receive Medicaid (pkg. A, B, E), Food Stamps, and TANF are income-eligible for WIC. For those who do not receive these services, the adjacent chart provides income guidelines. *Income means total income before deductions. If you are pregnant, count yourself as two (2). Household means a group of people (related or not) who are living as one economic unit. April 2009
